Do Not Eavesdrop!
“Rebekah was listening while Isaac spoke to his son Esau. So when Esau went to the field to hunt for game to bring home, Rebekah said to her son Jacob, ‘Behold, I heard your father speak to your brother Esau, saying, ‘Bring me some game and prepare a savory dish for me, that I may eat, and bless you in the presence of the Lord before my death.’
“Now therefore, my son, listen to me as I command you. Go now to the flock and bring me two choice young goats from there, that I may prepare them as a savory dish for your father, such as he loves. Then you shall bring it to your father, that he may eat, so that he may bless you before his death.’” Genesis 27:5-10
There are a couple of hidden dangers in eavesdropping. One is that you will hear the wrong thing. Two is that you will hear the right thing and not believe it. And three that you will take or not take proper action from what you hear.
When I first read this story and how diligent Esau was, in all his innocence to hunt and cook a special meal for his Dad and then find his brother had found a way to steal his birthright as well as his labour, it truly made me cry. And I thought surely God had made a mistake in ignoring the good works of Esau. But then I was only nine years old and had no perspective of deceit or God’s miraculous sovereignty to manage our every moment for our good and His glory!

NOTE: I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They reported supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies; and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.
