Curds and Honey!

“Then the Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying, ‘Ask a sign for yourself from the Lord your God; make it deep as Sheol or high as heaven.’  But Ahaz said, ‘I will not ask, nor will I test the Lord!’

“Then he said, ‘Listen now, O house of David!  Is it too slight a thing for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God as well?  Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign:  Behold a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.

“He will eat curds and honey at the time He knows enough to refuse evil and choose good.  For before the boy will know enough to refuse evil and choose good, the land whose two kings you dread will be forsaken.”  Isaiah 7:10-16

Ahaz refused to ask for a sign because he was afraid God’s message was true.  And if it was true, it meant Judah would be destroyed.  So, he pretended to be too righteous to bother God -- even though God told him to so His words would be confirmed and Ahaz’ faith would be strengthened.

The truth was that God’s patience with His people was over!  It was time for His plan to continue unfolding.  Judah would be destroyed.  The future, initially, would be filled with an abundance of curds and honey.  That at first sounds pretty good.

But for this to be true, the fields would become desolate.  Farmers would have no crops.  Vineyards would be ruined and only briers and thorns (verses 23-25) would grow.  Many nursing animals would die, leaving plenty of milk for curds.  Swarms of bees would feast on, and produce an abundance of honey, from the wild flowers that would take over the fields.

Often, we use some excuse, such as not wanting to bother God, to keep us from communicating with Him but it is critical to resist anything that keeps you from hearing and obeying God.

Take care with love, especially His, from Darlene, who still prays for you each day.
