His Business Trip
NOTE: Click to watch: Christmas in the Words of Christ – Alistair Begg (14 min 21 sec)
[Jesus speaking] “’For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
“’For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world would be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged, he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
“’And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.’” John 3:16-21
Even people who don’t go to church or read their Bibles will have heard or read John 3:16. Most Christians know it by heart and can recite it. Yet, if that is the only verse you know or read, you miss the reason it was necessary for Christmas or Easter to ever happen.
You see, man has chosen -- and continues to choose -- to disobey God since Genesis 3! The Bible tells this sad story over and over in so many ways it boggles the imagination. And yet, God created the only and perfect plan to overcome our sin choices and help us for eternity with our desire to sin.
How? He sent Jesus on a business trip to forgive us – “And He [Jesus] said to them [His parents who were searching for Him in Jerusalem], ‘Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?’ Luke 2:49 (New King James version)
