Sadness and Cheese

“Then Hushai said to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, ‘This is what Ahithophel counselled Absalom and the elders of Israel and this is what I have counselled.

“Now therefore, send quickly and tell David saying, ‘Do not spent the night at the fords of the wilderness but by all means cross over, lest the king and all the people who are with him be destroyed.’

“Now when David had come to Mahanaim, Shobithe son of Nahash from Rabbah of the sons of Ammon.  Machir the son of Ammiel from Lo-debar, the Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim,

“…brought beds, basins, pottery, wheat, barley, flour, parched grain, beans, lentils, parched seeds, honey, curds, sheep, and cheese of the herd, for David and for the people who were with him, to eat; for they said, ‘The people are hungry and weary and thirsty in the wilderness.’”  II Samuel 17:15-16, 27-29

Family strife is so numbingly painful.  Yet we see it all around us.  It seems more painful during holiday seasons.

Whenever I think of David, I don’t think of him beating Goliath or playing the harp for King Saul or commanding mighty battles, I think of David, the man, hiding in a cave or running for his life as one of his very sons pursues him to kill him.

Evil in our hearts, breaks our fellowship with the Lord.  It affects our relationships with family and friends.  Sometimes the break started long ago and has become an ‘automatic habit’.

Although God has given us a way to seek and find forgiveness, it remains our choice.  Perhaps, as this year closes, He will bring someone to mind that you need to forgive or ask forgiveness from.  (Matthew 5:21-24)

Take care with love, especially His, from Darlene, who still prays for you each day.
