Exhaustion

“Then David came to Mahanaim.  And Absalom crossed the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.  And Absalom set Amasa over the army in place of Joab.  Now Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Ithra the Israelite, who went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister of Zeruiah, Joab’s mother. And Israel and Absalom camped in the land of Gilead.

“Now when David had come to Mahanaim, Shobi the son of Nahash from Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, Machir the son of Ammiel from Lo0debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim brought beds, basins, pottery, wheat, barley, flour, parched grain, beans, lentils, parched seeds, honey , curds, sheep, and cheese of the herd, for David and for the people who were with him, to eat; for they said, ‘The people are hungry and weary and thirsty in the wilderness.” II Samuel 17:24-29

Leaders are tasked with being tireless and hopeful, but they are only human and here we find David, fighting defeat as even his son pursued him with murder on his mind.  And yet God was always with David and provided for him throughout his journey as he followed God.  Here a feast is prepared to refresh David for the next part of his journey.

Each of us have lives filled with adventure and defeats that lead us to the reality of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for our wilful sins.  Once we see this Truth, every step afterward is designed by our Father-God to refine us for future service.

NOTE:  I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses.  They reported supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies; and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.
