Eat Your Fill But…
“’When you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay to pay it, for it would be sin in you, and the Lord your God will surely require it of you. However, if you refrain from vowing, it would not be sin in you.
“’You shall be careful to perform what goes out of your lips, just as you have voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God, what you have promised.
“’When you enter your neighbour’s vineyard then you may eat grapes until you are fully satisfied, but you shall not put any in your basket. When you enter your neighbour’s standing grain, then you may pluck the heads with your hand, but you shall not wield a sickle in your neighbour’s standing grain.’” Deuteronomy 23:21-25
“At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples became hungry and began to pick the heads of grain and eat. But when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, ‘Look, Your disciples do what is not lawful to do on a Sabbath.’” Matthew 12:1
The Pharisees loved the Law. They loved talking about the Law. They memorised the Law. They took great pride in making a great show of how they, unlike others, meticulously kept the Law. Most of all they enjoyed catching anyone who did not abide by the strictest letter of the Law.
Yet it is the Law that stands unmoving to remind us that because we cannot keep the Law, we would have no hope without depending on the Saviour, Jesus Christ to demonstrate that power and salvation is not in the Law, but in His sacrifice for us.
“Is the Law then contrary to the promise of God? May it never be! For if a law has been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law. But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
“But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. Therefore, the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.” Galatians 3:21-24

NOTE: I choose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They reported supernatural events that took place before, of specific prophecies; and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.
