Wash Day

“Blessed are those who wash their robes so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city.

“Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.

“‘I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches.  I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.’” Revelation 21:14-16

If you’ve ever tried to get a blood stain out of your favourite shirt, this illustration seems nonsense -- to wash a robe in blood to get it pure white!  However, Jesus promises that if, and when, you entrust your life to Him, He will wash your sins away completely and give you a white robe.

It is tempting to imagine that you can enter His presence by your own good ‘washing’ efforts.  However, the stain of sin demands something more -- the blood He has shed for you -- the only sin purifier.

“In fact, we can say that under the old agreement almost everything was cleansed by sprinkling it with blood, and without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins.” Hebrews 9:22 - The Living Bible
