“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me away from Thy presence, and do not take Thy Holy Spirit from me. 

“Restore to me the joy of Thy salvation, and sustain me with a willing spirit.  Then I will teach transgressors Thy ways, and sinners will be converted to Thee.

“Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, God, Thou God of my salvation; then my tongue will joyfully sing of Thy righteousness.  O Lord, open my lips, that my mouth may declare Thy praise. 

“For Thou dost not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; Thou art not pleased with burnt offering.  The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise.” Psalm 51:10-18

Consider this second half of Psalm 51 as a map of hope for the New Year, and:

·       May your heart remain extraordinarily broken and tender to His guidance

·       May you remain ever mindful that He saw you as so precious, He died to save you

·       May the Holy Spirit help you more purposefully make God-honouring choices

·       May you remember every day is a purposeful gift He has granted for you and those you cherish – tread through it with kindness and compassion

·       May His love so radiate from you that others wonder at your ability to still care and strive for good, so that they seek you out for hope in this New Year.
